A note from Erica Falk, CEO of Doula Spot:
Do you carry liability insurance? As a doula you may not have thought about protecting yourself in the event (God forbid) that there is ever a problem in the L&D room. As a doula myself, i’ve heard stories where doulas have had to defend themselves in a malpractice suit. When working in scope of practice a doula is not doing anything clinical and are rarely liable in any court cases, BUT you do still need to pay to defend yourself.
I feel that carrying doula insurance is a very wise business move and gives you, and your clients an extra level of protection.
